I have been a volunteer dog walker at the North Myrtle Beach animal shelter for over a year. It is a very rewarding experience to take a few dogs out for a 15 - 20 minute walk each time I go there. It really is great exercise for me as I walk sometimes for over 2 hours with various dogs. I can tell from the excitement of each dog I walk how happy they are to get out of their kennel. The folks that work at the shelter are the kindest, most caring, hardworking individuals I have ever met. However, they don't have the time to take the dogs for daily walks. If you have just 30 minutes of free time once a week, Tuesday through Saturday, I urge you to consider coming by the shelter and making a few dogs feel like they are loved.

My wife began as a volunteer dog walker back in September of 2004 when we moved here from upstate New York. We were parted from our family beagle, when our son remained up North with the dog. So that she could fill the empty void in her heart that this separation created, I suggested she volunteer at a local shelter. Well, its been just over a year now and Rose has unofficially retired from the teaching field and now enjoys being an employee at the North Myrtle Beach shelter.
Though she usually is completely exhausted at the end of a day, she loves being part of the team there at the shelter. The unconditional love and gratefulness the animals give back to her outweighs her tiredness.
So, volunteer and give your heart some exercise too.Frank Pine

I would like to thank everyone at the Humane Society for allowing me to work so I can complete my Senior Community Service Project. Working with you was a great experience for me and it will benefit me in the future. I would especially like to thank Tina because she allowed me to interview her for my project.
I learned so much at the Humane Society while I worked with you all. I learned how to handle animals properly. I also learned how different animals have different habits and characteristics. I researched Animal Overpopulation and how we can solve the problem. I promoted that people have their pets neutered or spayed, or to adopt an animal from the shelter instead of breeding. I hope these solutions can help control the problem.
My Senior Project Presentation when very well. I was pretty nervous but I made it through. I remembered just about everything I wanted to say in my presentation. Hopefully I will receive a good grade for my overall project. I am definitely glad all of this is over though. I don't have to worry about it anymore.
I really enjoyed working at the animal shelter with everyone. I also really enjoyed playing around with the animals. I know most of them really enjoy the attention. Hopefully I will be able to come back and visit once in a while. Once again I would like to thank you all for assisting me with my project.
Sincerely,Daniel Meggs

On January 11, 2006 I presented my senior project to my fellow classmates, other students and the judges. I was so scared to present my project in front of everyone, and I was so nervous, you could tell. As soon as I walked into the auditorium I got chills all over my body. I would like to thank all of you for all the wonderful help you have given me, by giving me this great opportunity to be a part of your animal shelter and letting me help out. I would also like to thank you for all the great advice you provided me for my senior project, that meant a lot to me. This project wasn't that easy considering the fact that I didn't go to North Myrtle Beach High School last year and I didn't have a Jailor project to present.
My presentation wasn't all that great as I wanted it to be, but it went okay, compared to everyone else who presented their projects that day. Being last was hard to do. I was so nervous when I got up and started presenting. But once I began to talk and move on with the presentation, I got a lot more comfortable with myself and the crowd.
I learned so much from the experience from the animal shelter. This was a great opportunity for me, because I am such an animal lover. When it comes to animals I am the one to know. This topic made me want to know more and more about it. That's why I liked it so much. Another reason is that I love animals a whole lot, so this was a great topic for me to study, and do my research on.
Sincerely,Sophia Wark
